There’s a reason it’s called freelancing

Annyong. Lindsay here. When I should be packing. But really. Procrastination is key to a good move, right?

Well I’ve finally started doing some freelancing here in Korea. I first looked into it when I moved here a year ago, but then decided I’d just rather not deal with it, especially if I wasn’t going to get paid.

But recently I joined LinkedIn, a website to network with other working professionals, at the repeat e-mail invitations from Jimmy. So as I posted my resume, my photo and information on the site, I lied. Just a little. I wrote “Freelance writer and photographer.” It just looked so cool. Way better than English teacher. It was a little of a stretch. The only thing related to my degree I’m doing these days is the newsletter I edit.

So I decided to make good on my LinkedIn lie and contacted one of the two major English newspapers in Korea.

And today, my first photo ran! I know, you were expecting an article. But that’s coming out Sept. 2. It felt really cool to have a photo run in a newspaper. The only time it’s happened in the past was at the Citizen-Times when I couldn’t get one of our “real” photographers to come out on assignment with me and they had to “make do” with one of mine.

The photo is great!! And it looks fantastic in that spread. I have no doubt of your talent, and I know how well-rounded you are. So, I’m not surprised at all!
